On Saturday, Celtic drew 1-1 with St Mirren to celebrate their 2024/25 Premiership title, with James Forrest scoring his record-breaking goal. Aberdeen were defeated at Dundee United on the same day, just days after Celtic beat them 5–0 at Pittodrie in the Premiership. It means Jimmy Thelin’s side finished fifth in the Premiership table following a blistering start to the season, with some predicting a title race. All of that has now gone flat on Aberdeen’s face, as they enter the Scottish Cup final next Saturday at Hampden with their heads firmly down.

Celtic defeated Aberdeen by five goals the last time they met, and the Bhoys in green and white scored six goals the last time they met at Hampden. Furthermore, Celtic are vying for the Triple Crown, so you can bet your bottom dollar that the Scottish champs will go all out in this one. There should be no excuses here because Aberdeen’s situation is ‘very dismal’, according to Thelin. “In the end, our game summarises our season a little bit,” Thelin told me. “It has been inconsistent during and between games.

“There may be brief times in the games when we become too involved and lose control of the situation. That is something we have identified, worked on, and improved. “Everyone is very disappointed right now.” Everything is really gloomy right now. However, it is also my responsibility to look ahead with optimism. “We came off a tremendously challenging season last season and had a goal of getting to Europe; now we’re there. “With our inconsistency, we didn’t accomplish enough to earn more over the season. This is the first year of a three-year trip. We discovered issues and attempted to improve and stabilise conditions.”
