Joey O’Brien returns to West Ham in transfer coup for ‘top player with huge potential’
This summer, transfers between West Ham United, one of the Premier League’s biggest teams, and teams from
across the Irish Sea have been rather prevalent.
Joel Kerr, a Glentoran wonderkid, decided to join West Ham at the end of May. Less than two months later, Callum
Leacock, another Northern Ireland Under-17 international, joined from Linfield.
Sean Moore was the one who had to pack his things this week.
However, Moore is leaving West Ham United after two years with the claret and blue. In an effort to realise the “huge
potential” that earned him a berth in the NIFL Premiership Team of the Year at the age of just 17, as well as the
Young Player of the Year title, the former Cliftonville prodigy joins Shelbourne.
Joey O’Brien brings Sean Moore to Shelbourne from West Ham United
When West Ham signed Sean Moore a few summers ago, they reached an agreement for up to £500,000.
However, the bonuses and add-ons that Cliftonville put into his contract appear destined to be a waste because he
has failed to meet the extremely high standards needed in English football.
Even though he is only 19, a well-known figure in the Shelbourne dugout manages to land a football player with a lot
of natural skill and lots of playing time.
Joey O’Brien, a former Republic of Ireland international who played right back for West Ham for five years from
2011 to 2016, feels Sean is a good young player with a lot of promise.
He began playing football at a young age with Cliftonville and received a top-notch education with West Ham in
England. He is now prepared to begin the next phase of his career, and we are honoured that he has trusted us with
it.
He is an amazing player to watch, and his style of play is really upbeat. We have a lot of flexibility since he can play a
variety of positions on both sides of the field.
The young player from Belfast played for Northern Ireland at the Under-18 level before deciding to join the Republic
and making his way into their Under-21 squad.
Last season, Moore played in 20 games for Mark Robson’s West Ham team in Premier League 2, contributing two
assists and five goals.
Luke Byrne, Technical Director of Shelbourne FC, says, “We are looking forward to working with Sean to develop
that talent. He is a really exciting talent with lots of potential.”
He is a youthful Irish athlete who most certainly matches the type of player we are looking to bolster the team with.
We are thrilled that he has decided that Shelbourne is the ideal location for him to further his career.
Moore ‘buzzing’ with Hammers exit as another youngster makes his move

century of first-team appearances almost immediately after exiting his teenage years.
“I’m absolutely buzzing to be here [at Shelbourne],” Moore beams.
“Shelbourne is a massive club and I’m delighted to get the deal done. I’m ready to get to work, hit the ground
running, and show the fans what I’m all about.”
Moore is the most recent young player to depart West Ham, either permanently or temporarily, this summer.
After rejoining a midfield player he had previously worked with on loan at Wycombe Wanderers, Hatters manager
Matt Bloomfield declared that the Luton Town supporters “will love” Gideon Kodua.
Carlton Cole, manager of loans and pathways, acknowledges that West Ham also intends to farm out goalie Mason
Terry. On Monday, Patrick Kelly joined League One promotion-chasers Barnsley, while Michael Forbes joined Kevin
Nolan’s Northampton Town alongside Kamarai Swyer.
