Junior Firpo breaks silence on Leeds United’s departure with an emotional farewell, saying, “Far beyond football.”
Overnight, the contract of the Leeds United fan favorite expired.
After it was confirmed that he had departed Leeds United when his contract expired, Junior Firpo said a tearful goodbye to the team.
Firpo’s departure from Leeds was revealed on Tuesday. The left-back is expected to accept a “new challenge” away from Elland Road, most likely with his old team Real Betis.
The YEP knows that a new contract was discussed, but it was based on his team status, with a return to La Liga being the preferred option.
After four years at Leeds, Firpo swiftly rose to cult hero status under Daniel Farke after assuming a leading role.
With a touching message to his supporters in West Yorkshire, the 28-year-old departs as a Championship title winner and a clear fan favorite.
“To my Leeds united family, today is one of those moments you know will come eventually but it doesn’t make it any easier,” Firpo wrote over a video on Instagram.
It’s time for me to say goodbye to a club, a city, and a collection of people who have become extremely important to my family and me after four incredible years.
“I was thrilled about the challenge of a new league, a new nation, and an opportunity to develop when I initially arrived in the summer of 2021.
What I discovered at Leeds was much more than just football. I discovered a home, teammates who were like family, employees who showed me daily respect and consideration, and supporters who are more passionate about our team than anybody else.

“And to Leeds United’s real heart, the supporters.”
There have been many memorable moments during the past four years. All of the experiences—highs, lows, and lessons—have molded me into the person I am now.
Every episode has had an impact on me, from my very first steps on the field at Elland Road to the emotional rollercoaster of the Championship and, of course, that amazing return to the Premier League.
“Getting promoted this season was one of my proudest career experiences. It was about battling for these colors and believing in them, not just about football.
I will always remember the delight on everyone’s faces, the noise of Elland Road, and the knowledge that we had accomplished something unique together.
Additionally, I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who supported me and made it possible for me to initially don this shirt.
I’ve given back as much as I could from the beginning by working hard, putting forth effort, and giving my all.
I was prepared to stay because this club has really felt like home, but that option was never discussed.
“I want to express my gratitude to all of the coaches and personnel I’ve had the honor of working with since my arrival.
Every individual who makes a daily, behind-the-scenes contribution is appreciated for their hard work, concern, and dedication. This club depends on you to keep it going.
And to Leeds United’s real heart, the supporters. You supported us through the difficult times, and for that I will always be thankful. Leeds is more than just a city or a football team; it became my home.
And that link will always be there, even when my time here is over. I appreciate you allowing me to share in the history of this amazing club. Together, we are marching on.
