Just in: Sky Sports journalist says Sunderland make approach to sign Chelsea forward

Sunderland’s rollercoaster summer could be extended with a major new signing, according to sources, with Chelsea youngster Marc Guiu in their sights in the form of a loan offer for his talents.

So far, the Black Cats have strengthened their squad in a variety of positions, with former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka being their marquee signing, but a plethora of wingers, most notably Brighton star Simon Adingra, as well as coveted midfielders Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki, have also joined.

However, it appears that manager Regis Le Bris is not finished yet, and with their striking ranks failing to progress so far this summer, a new talisman is at the top of the list.

And with that in mind, Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie reports that Sunderland are in talks to take Chelsea prodigy Guiu on loan, in what has been a remarkable window for the Black Cats since their return to the Premier League.

The teenage striker is currently on loan courtesy to the additions of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, and the north-east club has made an approach to the Blues as they try to bolster their offensive talent for the next season.

The former Barcelona kid might be the icing on the cake for Le Bris’ team heading into the new season.

Guiu appeared in just three Premier League games last season, totaling 70 minutes against Crystal Palace, West Ham United, and Manchester City – but it was in the Conference League that he found form.

Four starts in the new European tournament resulted in an 8-0 triumph over FC Noah in November, followed by five goals in a week, including a hat-trick against Irish team Shamrock Rovers, to lead the way in their continental campaign.

Two more appearances in the Club World Cup, which Chelsea also won, as well as cameos in the FA Cup and League Cup, saw him emerge as a solid option in their heavy schedule as a hot prospect, but first-team minutes are required, with Delap, Pedro, and Nicolas Jackson all in contention.
