Kevin Nisbet insists Aberdeen ending ‘ridiculous’ Hibs run on a par with Scottish Cup semi as he shares Pittodrie future plan

Kevin Nisbet insists Aberdeen ending ‘ridiculous’ Hibs run on a par with Scottish Cup semi as he shares Pittodrie future plan.

The former Easter Road striker sunk David Gray’s side with a stunning late strike, moving the Dons level on points with their third-place rivals.

Kevin Nisbet, Aberdeen’s hero, has admitted that his wonder goal was among the best of his career.

Jimmy Thelin’s team ended Hibs’ 17-game Premiership unbeaten streak with a single goal from the Scotland striker.

Nisbet took a great touch and fired a controlled volley from distance into the top left corner of Jordan Smith’s goal.

The result could be significant for Aberdeen, bringing them level with third-placed Hibs in terms of points.

Nisbet proudly stated, “If I’m completely honest, I believe it could be among the best goals of my career.”

“I just think I might be off balance as well. I just hit it, and it went in.

“I am thrilled. I think as soon as I took it to the chest and shot, I knew it was going in.

“Yes, (I tried) simply go back across the keeper. “I don’t think he expects it.”

Kevin Nisbet scores, making it 1-0.

There has been a lot of pressure on Aberdeen to sign Nisbet on a permanent basis, but taking him away from Millwall would be costly. He is focused on the present moment.

Nisbet finished in style and expects Aberdeen to do the same in their battle for third place and the Scottish Cup final against Celtic.

“I think for me, it’s just about finishing the season well,” the 28-year-old said.

“My goal is to help Aberdeen finish as high as possible while also winning the cup.

“I’m not really thinking about next season. I’ll deal with it when it happens.

“You never know what the future brings. Right now, all I can think about is Aberdeen and getting three points.”

Hibs probably had the best chances until Nisbet scored, after which Aberdeen finished strongly. He understood how important it was to try to stop Hibs’ momentum.

The Dons star stated, “I think it’s what we deserved.” I think throughout the game, we were good going forward and defending well.

“It was massive.” We knew how important this game was. It’s likely to be on par with the semi-finals.

“We want to keep up with Hibs, and we are now level on points heading into the final four games, so it should be exciting.

“Yes, it was a fantastic run; I believe they were 17 unbeaten. It’s ridiculous, actually.

“We knew it had to come to an end at one point and thankfully we got the job done today.”

Aberdeen travel to St Mirren next week, and the Dons are focused on that rather than Hampden. Nisbet insisted, “I think the cup final is just in the back of our minds right now.”

“I think it’s just about the league.” We want to finish third.

“I think that’s definitely the goal now, especially after this victory. It’s all about this at one next week.
