Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sets potential Sunderland exit in motion as Napoli chase £30m star

Seldom does an hour pass without the Sunderland supporters thanking the football gods for Tammy Watson’s curler in the 95th minute of the Championship play-off final, which fell on the right side of Michael Cooper’s goalposts.

For the first time in nine mostly painful years, Premier League football returned to the Stadium of Light as the Brighton-bound Watson cemented his place as a “legend” on his farewell outing in Sunderland colors.

At the cost of a devastated Sheffield United and a puce-faced Chris Wilder, the Black Cats’ prospects of keeping the players who helped them get there in the first place were also greatly bolstered by that.

There is newfound optimism on Wearside about Chris Rigg’s future, but Jobe Bellingham is still set to depart Sunderland for Germany. Eintracht Frankfurt is vying with Borussia Dortmund for his £25 million contract.

Some of the major players in Europe are also interested in Eliezer Mayenda. The possibility of playing in the Premier League should keep the former Paris Saint-Germain target in a familiar environment.

Additionally, Sunderland is now playing from a position of significant strength. Thankfully, considering the interest in Dennis Cirkin, Wilson Isidor, and Anthony Patterson.

And with the opportunity to test himself against Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, and others approaching, Romaine Mundle, the former Tottenham Hotspur star, is probably going to be much more open to any offers of an extension as the Black Cats try to lock him down to a new contract.

Sunderland’s ambitions for Romaine Mundle may be complicated by Napoli.
Keith Downie, a correspondent for Sky Sports, asserts that PSV Eindhoven and Nice are both controlling Mundle.

If Nice wins the third qualifying round, both of the wingers’ suitors will be included in the 32-team Champions League at the beginning of 2024–2025.

Downie, 22, who is now contracted until the summer of 2028, says on X that Sunderland intends to begin negotiations with Romaine Mundle on a new deal following promotion to the Premier League. “Premier League teams are monitoring his development.” Likewise, PSV and Nice.

“Sunderland are expected to hold talks with several key players over revised deals following promotion.”

PSV Eindhoven probably selected Sunderland’s number 14 with Noa Lang’s possible departure in mind. Mundle is a right-footed winger who likes to cut in from the left-hand side, as Luton Town discovered the hard way. Mundle scored one of the season’s goals during October’s 2-1 victory at Kenilworth Road.

Mundle is probably seen by PSV Eindhoven as Noa Lang‘s replacement.
It’s no secret that Lang intended to make his ideal Serie A move in January after Marcelo Bielsa rejected his bid to join Leeds United while he was still at Club Brugge.

On the last day of the winter window, Napoli’s bid of £21 million was turned down. According to writer Rik Elfrink, PSV was negotiating for more than £30 million.
Four months later, the Scudetto champions’ frontline still has a Khvicha Kvaratskhelia-shaped hole in it as Napoli also hits the brakes in an attempt to sign Manchester United’s explosive Argentine Alejandro Garnacho.

Lang might yet fill that gap. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli is still keeping an eye on the erratic Dutchman.

Therefore, there’s a potential that Kvaratskhelia’s £60 million move to Paris Saint-Germain will start a series of events that would see Romaine Mundle leave Sunderland for PSV and Noa Lang leave PSV for Napoli.

Yes, a chance. However, Sunderland’s chances have significantly decreased since Tommy Watson’s Wembley victory.
