KING STREET SOCIAL TAP TO OPEN IN FORMER SLUG & LETTUCE PREMISES IN HUDDERSFIELD TOWN CENTRE

In the heart of Huddersfield, the old Slug & Lettuce restaurant and bar will reopen as a sports bar.

After over a decade in the community, Slug & Lettuce on King Street closed its doors in January 2025.

Amber Taverns, located in Blackpool, has already taken over the space, and renovations are in progress.

Amber says she will bring a “great pub to the heart of Huddersfield” with the new establishment, King Street Social Tap.

With several TV screens, King Street Social Tap will broadcast live sports, including boxing on pay-per-view. A few

dartboards will also be present.

“The contractors are currently on site doing a refurbishment of the old Slug & Lettuce,” stated Gary Roberts, Amber

Taverns’ operations director.

The King Street Social Tap, as it will now be known, will serve as a gathering place for people of all ages to socialise

and savour a delicious selection of draught beverages, including Cruzcampo, Strongbow Strawberry, Amstel, and

Heineken 0% on tap.

Alongside Red Stripe, which is experiencing a slight comeback, there will be a tribute to session artisan labels like

Beavertown Neck Oil, BrewDog Wingman, and Alpacalypse.

“Competitive pricing will highlight our dedication to serving our entire local community.”

The opening date has not yet been announced.

The reopening comes after a string of closures at the beginning of the year, including the final closure of BrewDog on

Zetland Street.

The Light, a £9 million movie theatre and entertainment complex, opened at the Kingsgate Centre earlier this

month, boosting the nighttime economy and hospitality sector.

The Light features a restaurant and bar of its own, but other well-known businesses will soon operate in freshly

constructed spaces in front of Zetland Street.

Durty O’Dwyer, an Irish pub, and Chipway, a restaurant serving real Belgian fries for the first time in Huddersfield,

have also just opened on King Street.

The former BrewDog location is now occupied by the Parish.
