KNIBBS: ‘I don’t think I imagined it to be better!’
Harvey Knibbs has scored at The Valley before, as an opposition player, but had never been on the winning side at Charlton’s home, until Saturday.
On their return to the Championship, the Addicks defeated Watford 1-0 at The Valley thanks to a goal from the 26-year-old in the fourth minute of stoppage time. He remarked, “I don’t think I dreamed it any better than that.” “I couldn’t sleep well last night [Friday] because I kept thinking about the opening day, the excitement, Charlton’s debut, the Championship debut—it couldn’t have gone better.” The boys, in my opinion, were excellent, and in all honesty, their diligence enables me to enter the game as it is and win it for us.
With all the festivities, it’s a bit of a haze now, but I had to maintain my composure, understand my role, and be aware of how much the guys had grafted. Everyone finds it simpler since I was able to come on and do my job. Knibbs clarified that Nathan Jones, the manager, had discussed finishers—not substitutes—staying focused and prepared to fulfil their role throughout the week. Knibbs celebrated his first goal with his teammates and the Charlton supporters after it was scored in front of the Covered End.
“The sound when the ball hit the net was unbelievable,” he remarked. It might be among the highlights of my career to date. Seeing that end is undoubtedly a pinch-me moment. “This dressing room is so great that even though I’ve only been here for a week, it feels like I’ve been here for a year. Success leaves traces, and the fact that this staff and team received a promotion demonstrates how close-knit they are. I give the boys credit because of the manner they’ve greeted me, which makes me feel at ease and enables me to perform like that.
