Latest: Portsmouth make call on Tottenham Hotspur man’s future amid bid to earn Fratton deal

The veteran Spurs custodian, who left the Premier League team this summer, has been hoping to sign with Pompey.

Alfie Whiteman left Pompey with the intention of earning a future at Fratton.

After a stint on trial with the Blues, John Mousinho has announced that the player who left Spurs this summer has

also moved on from PO4.

Pompey make Spurs keeper call

However, as their transfer plans progress, Mousinho has announced that his team would continue to attempt to add

another goalie to their roster in the upcoming weeks.

Whiteman ended a ten-year relationship with the London Premier League team a few months ago, and he has been

training with Pompey during preseason.

The 26-year-old participated in both the behind-the-scenes victory over Crawley and the first preseason victory at

Woking.

However, Whiteman did not play for Hawks at Westleigh Park yesterday night, nor did he play for Reading on

Saturday.

Speaking after the 0-0 draw Mousinho confirmed the Londoner has now moved on from his stay with Pompey.

He said: ‘Alfie’s no longer with us on trial and he hasn’t been with us this week, but we’ll be keeping a keen eye on

where Alfie ends up.’

Mousinho has stated that Pompey wants to use four keepers in the first team group for the upcoming campaign, even

though Whiteman left PO4.

After an incredible debut season at PO4, Nico Schmid has established himself as the team’s first choice. Ben Killip

and Jordan Archer are the Austrian’s backup choices.

Salford, a League Two team, was linked to Archer, and Mousinho said this week that he wouldn’t stop the former

Millwall player from moving on if he so desired.

Toby Steward is Pompey’s other keeping option with the academy graduate spending the campaign on loan north of

the border with St Johnstone.

Mousinho acknowledged there’s not a wealth of suitable keeper options available to the Blues at present, but he does

think that situation could change over the next couple of weeks.

Pompey push on with keeper transfers search

“We’ve talked about why I still believe we need four goalkeepers,” he remarked.

“We’ll see where we are with that over the next ten days, but it’s probably not our top priority right now.”

“We want to add it for training purposes and to strengthen the goalkeeping department in general, but it’s probably

not a great market for that right now.”

“We want to make sure we have strength in depth in the goalkeeping department, but it’s a hard one because if

you’ve got a number one, like we do with Nico, sometimes,” Mousinho stated earlier this week while discussing the

rationale behind his desire for four keepers.

However, Nico merits that place because of his performance with Austria past season.

“We do discuss the desire to have four goalkeepers, and that’s usually for training standards.” We frequently play

small-sided games with two fields in action at the same time, and four goalkeepers are necessary to perform it at a

high level.

“We want to end up with four because we are trying to strengthen that department.”
