‘Laughable’… Sheffield Wednesday supporters’ trust hits back at Dejphon Chansiri, questions remain unanswered
Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri’s recent club statement has been given a scathing report as the supporters’ trust demands answers to 12 questions that remain unanswered.
The rollercoaster that is Sheffield Wednesday’s off-season period carries on as Thursday saw the Championship fixture release overshadowed by a lengthy statement released by Dejphon Chansiri.
Sheffield Wednesday need a new direction, with several players still unpaid by Chansiri, although all players who were expected to return to training did.
The only notable absence from the first day of pre-season was Danny Rohl, who continues to work out an exit route from Hillsborough.
There remains slim optimism amongst Wednesdayites about a potential sale, but Chansiri’s comments brought many back to earth with a statement that sparked a response from the supporters’ trust.
Sheffield Wednesday supporters’ trust responds to ‘laughable’ statement
Chansiri’s most recent communication to the fans downplayed the progress that was suggested to be made with one consortium, including claims that they didn’t join a Zoom call to discuss the deal.
Alongside this, the statement ended with Chansiri suggesting that he is unwilling to sell unless it is to the right person, with the owner maintaining that he is doing what is best for Sheffield Wednesday.
Such a statement was not taken well by the supporters’ trust, who responded to the comments.
“So, there is finally a statement from Dejphon Chansiri after the deafening silence of the past two months,” the supporters’ trust wrote in a recent statement. “Yet, fans are still left without answers regarding the desperate situation at the club.
“Instead, we are presented with detailed self-justification about how Mr. Chansiri feels he has been misrepresented, along with some laughable claims about how he is “looking after” the club.”
The trust then went on to ask several questions of Chansiri, including ‘Will staff and players be paid for June?’ and ‘Do you have funding in place to complete the season?’
The trust continued: “We want to send a message directly to Dejphon Chansiri: You are the one killing the joy of supporting a football club for tens of thousands of people.
“Spend some time today responding to the real questions fans are asking. Stop blaming others and take responsibility.
“You are killing the club, not saving it. Just sell.”
Owls fans require clarity on the club situation
Sheffield Wednesday owner Chansiri must be juggling several plates right now, to the point where running a football club may not be feasible, especially given his financial situation.
Owls fans don’t need ambitions of reaching the Premier League now, they just want clarity that they can continue visiting Hillsborough every other weekend to support Sheffield Wednesday – a club that is being put in danger.
As each day creeps forward, the more difficult the situation becomes. Some players will soon be owed two months’ worth of unpaid wages.
The supporters’ trust was very clear with their words, and it is now one that comfortably represents the majority of the fanbase.
