Scotland striker not in Spain at the Edinburgh club’s preseason camp After contract negotiations with Lawrence Shankland came to a standstill, Hearts are moving forward with other signing targets. Head coach Derek McInnes spoke this week about Shankland’s absence from the team’s preseason training camp in Spain, but he made it clear that the striker hasn’t said “no” to a new contract.
Shankland has so far rejected attempts by Tynecastle authorities to reach an agreement on a new contract since his three-year Hearts deal ended last month. The Scotland international was not included in McInnes’ 28-man first-team squad that was sent to the Iberian coast on Saturday. Since negotiations have come to a standstill, Hearts is now making more aggressive efforts to sign a new striker.
After making their greatest offer, which would make Shankland their highest-paid player, the Edinburgh News reported on Sunday that Hearts were standing strong. Speaking from the team’s camp in Spain, McInnes described the current state of affairs. Really, I’ve left it with the club. All of the strikers that the team has, in my opinion, have some greater attributes than others, and some are a little different. In the end, we still want forwards with goal-scoring ability, but I also believe that durability, strength, and aggressiveness are always crucial.
