Leeds Rhinos have issued an injury update on one of their most in-form players.
Lachie Miller, an Australian full-back, suffered a calf muscle injury 35 minutes into last Saturday’s 22-18 victory over Wakefield Trinity and did not play in the second half.
The Rhinos, who were leading 22-6 at halftime, shifted Man of Steel leader Jake Connor from halves to fullback and failed to score a point with Miller off the field.
The former Cronulla Sharks and Newcastle Knights player missed the Rhinos’ first five games of the season due to hamstring and calf ailments, but has been in good form since his return and is sixth on the Man of Steel leaderboard, so a protracted layoff would be a significant blow.
However, the Rhinos return to action after the Challenge Cup final break when the Warrington Wolves travel AMT Headingley on Saturday, June 14, and sporting director Ian Blease has confirmed Miller may be fit for that game.
Ian Blease gives Leeds Rhinos injury latest
“We’ve had him scanned and it is good news – it is not a long-term one,” Blease told me. “We’ll have a couple of weeks to see whether we can prepare him for Warrington.
“If there’s any doubt, we won’t risk him, but it’s comforting to know he won’t be out for long. The club is good at getting individuals back fit and ready, so we’ll see how he does.”
There’s also good news for two young players, including one who hasn’t played in almost two years.
Centre Max Simpson has been out since January 2023 due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee injury, while another 20-year-old, attacker Ben Littlewood, had surgery on an injured hamstring in preseason.
Blease stated, “Max will be ready for the next reserve team game [at home against Warrington’s second-string on June 14], everything being well.
“Ben Littlewood is also getting there; another few weeks and he’ll be back, so it’ll be great to get these young players back on the pitch. That is an added bonus halfway through the year.”
