Leeds United and Wolves promotion-winner becomes free agent just seven months on from homecoming move

Leeds signed the 35-year-old during the first summer under legendary Marcelo Bielsa’s leadership.

Despite playing less due to injury, Douglas was a member of the Whites team that was finally promoted to the Premier League in 2020.

Following promotion, a loan transfer to Blackburn Rovers was approved before Douglas departed permanently to work with Lech Poznan once more.

After leaving Poznan, he remained briefly single until moving to St. Johnstone in October, which allowed him to return to his home country of Scotland.

But seven months after signing his contract, the seasoned left-back is looking for other opportunities.

As the team has indicated their intention to finish a makeover, Douglas is one of 16 players departing St Johnstone this summer as out-of-contract players.

Given that the Saints’ 2024–25 season ended in relegation from the Scottish Premiership, it is not surprising that they have released a number of players.

“It’s an exciting time,” Douglas stated after joining the team in October. I am excited for the chance to enter and attempt to assist the lads in their development.

This place has a project. There is a period of transition as the new manager takes over. I looked at it and saw that the team is rather young, so I can surely use my skills and expertise to assist everyone grow on and off the field.

“I am really excited to be here playing football because the drive and hunger are still there.”

Although Douglas has a resume that will surely draw suitors this summer, it is still unclear what the future holds for him.

Having won the Championship title with Leeds in 2020 and Wolves in 2018, he has won the trophy twice.

But in September, he will turn 36, and he might decide he doesn’t want to continue playing.
