Leeds United ‘identify’ Illan Meslier replacement as transfer talks ‘opened’ for Champions League star

As the team looks for a successor for Illan Meslier, Leeds United is reportedly “in talks” with Daniel Paretez, the goalkeeper for Bayern Munich.

Meslier lost his starting position in the last few games of the season due to his patchy play and high-profile mistakes, even though he kept 21 clean sheets in 39 games throughout Leeds’ promotion-winning campaign.

Karl Darlow, 34, took his position and made an immediate impression, keeping four clean sheets in seven games. However, Meslier’s exit now seems more likely, and Darlow is not anticipated to be Daniel Farke’s first-choice goalkeeper in the Premier League.

To strengthen their goalkeeping options, Leeds is reportedly interested in acquiring Daniel Peretz, the goalkeeper for Bayern Munich, in the summer.

The Israeli international signed a contract with the Bundesliga winners through 2028 after joining them in 2023 for an estimated £4.2 million. The 24-year-old has mostly played as a rotation player for Bayern, but in his few outings, including one in the Champions League this season, he has displayed glimpses of potential.

“Geneo and Leeds United are in talks with Daniel Peretz,” said iMiaSanMia, a Bayern transfer guru, in a tweet. Instead of staying in Germany, the goalie would rather relocate abroad. In one to three weeks, a decision is anticipated.

Given Peretz’s lack of top-flight experience, the move would be risky, but Farke has already shown that well-thought-out moves can be successful by signing Ao Tanaka.
