Leeds United ‘launch’ Man United transfer hijack gamble as club-record price tag set

Leeds United transfer news and opinions include updates on Oscar Gloukh, Natan, Jaka Bijol, and the summer transfer window.

Leeds United completed their second acquisition of the summer window on Monday, securing defender Jaka Bijol from Udinese for a cost of around £15 million.

Despite being quoted £17 million to sign the Slovenian, Leeds completed the deal this week to complement Lukas Nmecha, who has agreed to join on July 1. LeedsLive understands that the Whites are not close to signing a third player, with new players anticipated to arrive in July.

However, there are moving elements in United’s transfer business, with a number of players linked with a move to Elland Road. With that in mind, we look at the most recent Leeds-related headlines.

United and Liverpool hijack

Daniel Farke is apparently interested in Oscar Gloukh, a Manchester United and Liverpool prospect. According to Le Nouvel Echo, Leeds ‘expressed interest’ in the 21-year-old after learning about his accomplishments at RB Salzburg.

Leeds’ association with Red Bull, valued at £21 million, is expected to provide them an advantage over their Premier League rivals in acquiring his signing. Gloukh, who can play as a No.10 or left flank, scored ten goals and assisted five others in the Austrian Bundesliga last season.

According to LeedsLive, this would be a major coup for Leeds. Gloukh has long been linked with a move to one of Europe’s top divisions, and if the Whites complete the transaction, it may be a risk, but it might pay out well in the future.

“It would improve Farke’s attacking options and at £21m, it won’t break the bank.”

More defensive additions.

Despite buying Bijol and already having several quality defenders, Leeds are reportedly looking for more. Real Betis’ Natan de Souza, 24, is allegedly on their radar after impressing last season.

Betis stated that they had activated the €9 million (£7.7 million) purchase option to make the loan permanent. However, Estadio Deportivo has stated that the Europa Conference League finalists will consider selling if they can make a profit.

Lazio and Leeds are claimed to have made ‘formal approaches’ for the defender, with a proposal of €27 million (£23.1 million) rejected. It is said that they want €45 million (£38.5 million) for him, which would break United’s current club record.

“Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk might potentially play significant roles in the Premier League, and Bijol’s addition has just increased Farke’s possibilities. For that money, Leeds should prioritize other roles.”
