Leeds United’s plans for Illan Meslier after Man United’s Andre Onana blocked his exit

Illan Meslier’s plans with Leeds United after Andre Onana of Manchester United prevented him from leaving

Meslier was finally removed from Daniel Farke’s starting lineup for Leeds last season after a string of catastrophic mistakes. Karl Darlow took over, and Meslier’s final game was still the 2-2 draw with Swansea.

Lucas Perri has joined Leeds for the next season. Unquestionably, the enormous Brazilian is Leeds’ number one, with Darlow serving as backup. According to Darlow’s performance for Wales in Kazakhstan, there was fierce competition. Meslier has not been included in any of the four squads thus far, not even for the Carabao Cup match against Sheffield Wednesday, and his number one shirt has been taken away for Perri. Everyone thought Meslier would leave. However, Meslier was unable to find a transfer outside of Leeds prior to the deadline. That is even though Meslier was being negotiated by Valencia and Lorient on the day of the deadline. In the end, nothing happened for Meslier.

With the Turkish SuperLig window still open until Friday the 12th, Meslier’s options now include Trabzonspor, according to transfer expert Graeme Bailey, who spoke to LeedsUnited.News. However, any hopes of Meslier joining Trabzonspor have been dashed since Trabzonspor has signed Andre Onana, a Manchester United failure. “After the Premier League window closed, a lot of goalkeepers were on the market,” Bailey stated. Before they signed Andre Onana, he had the option of playing for Trabzonspor. He’ll be there till January because it’s one of those. It’s one of those circumstances when Leeds could have handled things more effectively.

It was mutually agreed upon by Leeds and Patrick Bamford to end his contract one year before to its expiration. He had been on Leeds’ books for seven years, so it made sense to take his huge salary off the list. Bamford, who is currently 32, has very little market worth. For Meslier, it’s not the same. Despite being only 25, PSR views any amount Leeds receives as pure profit because they paid £5 million to sign with Leeds five years ago.

Meslier will likely stay, according to Bailey: “I don’t think they’re going to buy his contract out.” According to what I’ve been informed, he is not a troublemaker or a bad egg. There is still some value in his contract, so they won’t terminate it. Meslier is currently expected to stay out of action at Leeds until the winter transfer window. Meslier’s decision to play for the 21s over the next few weeks alongside Jonny Howson would not be shocking.
