Leicester boss makes Mads Hermansen admission as West Ham move in on £25m goalkeeper

Most, if not all, of the indications point to Leicester City custodian Mads Hermansen returning to the Premier

League scene quickly as West Ham United gets ready to intensify their search for a new custodian.

West Ham is prioritising the recruitment of a custodian in the upcoming days, a representative for the club’s board

told Hammers News.

And not a moment too soon.

In the 2-1 loss to Manchester United in New Jersey, the much-maligned Alphonse Areola committed yet another

costly possession error. Similar to the late-season match against Nottingham Forest, a bad pass out sent the ball

hurtling into the West Ham United net.

In addition to being a superb goalie, Graham Potter would prefer his new number one to be far more skilled with the

ball at his feet. Thus, the interest in the Danish net-guard, valued at £25 million, from Leicester City.

The Foxes’ preseason preparations have been lacking Mads Hermansen. On Friday, a team led by former Queens

Park Rangers manager Marti Cifuentes lost 3-1 to Bundesliga team Koln, and he was nowhere to be seen again.

Cifuentes, though, has a rather simple explanation for Hermansen’s absence.

When asked about the former Denmark Under-21 international, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s replacement at the King

Power Stadium insisted that Hermansen is still recovering from a groin injury he picked up in May.

Jakub Stolarzyk has taken his place in the meantime, though the signing of veteran Asmir Begovic does appear to

suggest that Leicester are planning for life without the ex-Brondby ace.

“[Hermansen’s recovery] is going well. He has started to train with the group,” Cifuentes said while the Odense-born

25-year-old edges closer to a return.

“During this camp [in Austria], he has been taking a step forward in terms of what he was doing before that. He is

feeling good. He is starting to kick longer, he is starting to push really hard.

“We hope he can be ready soon.”

It remains to be seen whether Hermansen will be fit enough to start when Leicester host Sheffield Wednesday in

their Championship opener on August 10th.

Or, perhaps more pertinently, whether he will still be a Leicester player by then.

Hermansen could reunite with Casper Ankergren as Newcastle turn to Aaron Ramsdale

Mads Hermansen is currently West Ham’s top target to take Areola’s place in goal, according to information

obtained by Hammers News.

Two former Brondby staff members may also be reunited at the London Stadium with the arrival of Casper

Ankergren, the club’s recently hired first-team goalkeeping coach.

After being strongly linked to Hermansen, Newcastle United is now focussing on Aaron Ramsdale of Southampton,

who is also on Graham Potter’s radar. Coaimhin Kelleher and Djordje Petrovic have joined Brentford and

Bournemouth, respectively, and Parma has no immediate intentions to sell Zion Suzuki.

Hermansen is now reputedly worth £25 million, according to The Sun, making him maybe the most affordable

alternative.

A club source tells Hammers News, “We are working hard on a new custodian this week.” “We are extremely short in

that position, and we want to get that resolved as a priority next.”

In December of last year, Leicester City shocked Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham 3-1 thanks in large part to

Hermansen’s superb performance. At King Power Stadium, the visitors managed 31 efforts on goal before Niclas

Fullkrug’s most recent consolation came in stoppage time.
