Leicester City among four Championship clubs circling Manchester United defender, he’s been told he can leave
It has been confirmed that the Red Devils academy graduate will be departing Old Trafford this summer.
The 16-year-old Bolton native was signed by United from Morecambe.
He has enjoyed success at the club, but after playing for United’s all-conquering, double-winning Academy team the previous season, he has been free to move on.
He obtained important first-team experience during the second half of this season while on loan at Rochdale in the National League.
The teenager has already drawn interest from clubs including lately relegated Leicester City, Millwall, Derby County, and recently promoted Wrexham.
Jack Kingdon, a defender for Manchester United, is attracting interest from a number of Championship clubs, according to EFL Analysis.
According to Graeme Bailey, a transfer specialist, several teams are already showing interest in the Scottish young international.
Despite his youth, teams like Leicester, Millwall, Derby, and Wrexham would all be eager to have him experience at a major club like United.
The Foxes, who may replace Ruud van Nistelrooy with a Championship manager who makes history, are looking for an immediate return to the Premier League after giving up 76 goals in 35 games (statistic via transfermarkt). They might discover that a hungry young defender like Kingdon is just what their defensive line needs.
Both teams could benefit from defensive reinforcements after having seasons where they came within a hair’s breadth of important results—Milwall missed the playoffs and Derby County barely avoided relegation—a sentiment that may have been echoed in Ebou Adams’ homage to the “amazing” John Eustace after Derby County’s “miracle.”
In contrast to Wrexham, the young player may be swayed to a new, impending challenge by the attraction of a Hollywood endorsement.
Kingdon, who came from Morecambe’s academy in 2020, spent four years at Manchester United before joining Rochdale on loan in January.
The now 19-year-old signed his first professional contract in July after winning the Under-18 Premier League title the previous season.
Kingdon, a former captain of Scotland’s U-18 team, has trained with United’s first team and made ten appearances for the U-21 team this season. His growth has earned him his first loan move for senior experience.
Through United’s Pro Experience Scheme, he previously had exposure to a first-team setting. One such experience was training with Altrincham during the 2022–2023 season, during which he made an appearance in the Cheshire Senior Cup.
Kingdon has previously played at Rochdale’s Crown Oil Arena this season, completing 90 minutes for Manchester United against Dale in the National League Cup.
