Leicester City facing huge ‘problem’ in Wilfred Ndidi transfer saga as top-flight clubs circle

As elite clubs circle, Leicester City is dealing with a major “problem” in the Wilfred Ndidi transfer drama.

Supporters of Leicester would have expected the summer transfer window to go smoothly after the team was demoted from the Premier League, but that was never going to happen.

Due to alleged violations of profit and sustainability regulations during the 2023–24 season, Leicester has already been docked nine points, and no players have been allowed to enter the King Power Stadium. The news has instead focused on player departures, with new manager Marti Cifuentes frantically attempting to retain some of his top players.

Wilfred Ndidi, a midfielder who has served the Foxes for eight years, appears destined to depart. After being relegated from the Premier League, it was revealed in April that Ndidi’s contract contained a £9 million release clause.

A number of teams are interested in acquiring Ndidi at his low cost, including Manchester United, Everton, Crystal Palace, and other Bundesliga teams. According to our Chief Football Correspondent, Graeme Bailey, Leicester’s financial worries could cause the Foxes to lose the Nigerian for less than his release clause next month.

Given that clubs won’t move forward with a transaction knowing that City is having financial difficulties, this poses a serious “problem” for Leicester. In fact, Man United and other European teams may be patiently waiting to sign the 28-year-old later in the transfer window in the hopes that he will rejoin the Premier League.

Ndidi, who has made 220 appearances for the Foxes and developed into a top-tier operator, has been an amazing servant to the team. However, Cifuentes is concerned about more than just the Nigerian international’s future because Arsenal is interested in Bilal El Khannouss following his stellar rookie campaign.

However, Leicester will only sell El Khannouss if a high price is made, and Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports reports that they are considering paying at least £25 million for the Moroccan. The offensive midfielder cost City about £21 million in the summer of last year, but since they were relegated, their asking price is obviously lower.
