Leicester City made grave mistake in January 2025 that has come back to haunt them following Jamie Vardy exit

Jamie Vardy will depart Leicester City at the conclusion of the 2024–2025 campaign, the club has revealed.
Vardy’s exit from Leicester City has sparked reactions from the fans, which will make it difficult for the team to go on after losing its main talisman, who has contributed greatly to the team over his 12-year career.
Leicester City might replace Vardy with a number of players, but none would be able to match the excellence he consistently delivered, particularly during his final season in the 2023–24 Championship, when he scored 18 goals in the league.
But if Leicester City hadn’t approved the sale of a player with a stellar Championship record, it wouldn’t be quite as difficult to replace Vardy.
Vardy’s departure from Leicester City was always going to happen, even though the club is going through a tough moment after being relegated to the Championship.
The Foxes may have a harder time finding Vardy a suitable replacement because of their relegation; he will need a player with a strong Championship record to even begin to fill his place.
Unfortunately for Leicester, Tom Cannon, a proven goal scorer at this level who excelled in the early going of this season while on loan at Stoke City, might have joined them for the 2025–26 Championship campaign.
Cannon was permanently sold to Sheffield United, a top-tier team, in January for £10 million.
As Leicester City prepares for the Championship next season, their attacking options will be far from capable once Vardy leaves the King Power Stadium at the end of this current campaign.
Jordan Ayew, who is also past his prime and has only scored four Premier League goals this season, and Patson Daka, who has never been able to get going for Leicester City, are the current choices.
In addition to looking for a successor for Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who is expected to leave Leicester City, the team should focus a lot of its efforts on finding a trustworthy striker at this level.
