The Premier League season has yet to end, so Leicester must play out the rest of their games, but the rebuilding process may have already begun, even if the manager situation at the King Power Stadium is uncertain.
Leicester City raises Bilal El Khannouss’ asking price amid Premier League interest.
One player who is most likely to be on the move is Moroccan playmaker Bilal El Khannouss, who has had a positive impact on the City squad this season.
El Khannouss, who signed a four-year deal in the East Midlands for around £21 million from Genk, has shown interest in joining another Premier League team this summer.
El Khannouss, who has two goals and three assists in 30 Premier League appearances, is already attracting interest, and according to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, City has set a price for the 20-year-old.
Leicester will accept a €26 million (£22.1 million) offer for El Khannouss this summer, which is only £1.1 million more than they paid for him last year.
In April, The Athletic reported that the EFL is attempting to sanction Leicester due to an alleged breach of PSR regulations. The issue is still being resolved through arbitration, but it may require the club to balance their books through sales.
According to CaughtOffside, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Fulham, and Wolves are interested in signing El Khannouss, making it unlikely that he will remain at Leicester by September.
Losing Bilal El Khannouss would be a blow for Leicester City; however, it may be a necessary sale.
Due to the possibility of receiving punishment from the EFL, Leicester and owner Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha may be forced to make some difficult decisions, such as selling top performers from the 2024-25 season.
El Khannouss clearly falls into that category, given his flashes of talent, and it would not be surprising if a Premier League club – or perhaps an overseas outfit – came calling for the Moroccan.
Leicester have a number of dangerous wingers for next season, but they don’t have much depth in the number 10 position beyond El Khannouss.
As long as he is adequately replaced, Leicester should not be too concerned about his expected sale, but City fans will most likely look back in a few years and wish they could have kept him for a few more seasons.
