Leigh Leopards boss makes ‘harsh reality’ point after what happened vs Wakefield Trinity

Leigh Leopards may have claimed their ninth win of the Super League season at the weekend but Adrian Lam feels as though they still have plenty of improvement in them.

The Leopards defeated Wakefield Trinity 24-20 at Belle Vue, with the hosts battling back from an 18-6 deficit to make it a close game. However, Leigh had enough to win the game, with David Armstrong scoring two tries and Darnell McIntosh and Joe Ofahengaue crossing the line.

The result was enough to keep Lam’s team in fourth place, with a three-point margin between them and the pursuing group, lead by St Helens. As a result, they’re in command of their playoff hopes, and the head coach couldn’t have asked for anything more at this point in the season.

However, Lam is confident that his team is merely operating at a level that is below their best. That’s because the Leopards allowed Wakefield to come back into the game on Sunday rather than punishing them for their early domination.

The head coach wants to see his team progress, and he believes Leigh’s next move should be to correct some dumb mistakes.

Leigh Leopards boss gives ‘six out of 10’ take

“I thought we were courageous and resilient,” Lam stated following the victory over Wakefield, according to the BBC. “Even though we were our own greatest opponent, we found a way to win from that.

“We’re currently a six out of ten, which some fans may find harsh, but it’s the reality. There’s still so much room for development. We introduced Wakefield into the game by some of our behaviors.

“We led 18-6 and that should have been the game, but we’ve just got to get rid of a couple of things we’re doing in games to bring opposition teams back in – but that’s an easy fix.”

Leigh travel to the south of France to face Catalans Dragons this weekend, and given Catalans’ poor recent form, they will be overwhelming favourites to win yet another game.
