Leinster presented their home jersey for the 2025/26 season earlier today, with one significant modification to a club tradition sparking debate among fans.
The province shared a first look at the gear on their social media accounts this morning, and it appears to be a very conventional offering.
However, a closer look reveals one significant absence from the kit: the four stars that were previously displayed over the Leinster clash.
Leinster Explain Decision To Make Controversial Change To New Jersey
Leinster has decided to remove the four stars off its home and alternative jerseys for the upcoming season, despite the stars having reflected the province’s previous Champions Cup successes.
According to reports, the decision was made to “align with the overall values of the Leinster Rugby Club.”
This decision reflects our ambition to be representative of the whole club, across all teams and all competitions.
We are incredibly proud of our Champions Cup history and the stars will remain on our European jersey, but we also believe the home jersey should speak to and celebrate the full Leinster journey for our men’s and our women’s teams and of course our age grade and junior rugby representative teams – past, present and future.
There is no doubt that the landscape is changing. We are entering a period of huge opportunity and growth for the women’s game, in particular, and we want to be ahead of that change as best we can on a number of fronts.
As previously stated, the stars will stay on Leinster’s European shirt, which will be worn exclusively in continental competition.
This choice appears to have been made so that the shirt would not only represent the successes of the men’s team, but would also be worn by the women’s and youth teams.
Leinster’s latest Champions Cup victory was in 2018, after losing four straight finals since then.
