Leon Parillon Determined to Continue Rapid Rise with Southend United
Southend United midfielder Leon Parillon is determined to keep his meteoric rise going as the Shrimpers prepare for their next National League challenge this weekend.
The 22-year-old has impressed since joining the club earlier this year, quickly cementing his place in Kevin Maher’s midfield with a string of assured performances. Parillon’s emergence has been a bright spark in a season marked by highs and lows, and he’s eager to maintain that momentum as Southend push towards a strong finish.
“This is just the beginning for me,” said Parillon. “I’ve worked hard to get to this point, and now that I’m here, I’m not going to let the opportunity pass me by. I want to keep improving and help this club climb the table.”
Parillon’s journey has been anything but conventional. Having come through the ranks at Oxford United, the midfielder faced setbacks and loan spells in non-league football before finding his footing with Southend. But it’s that experience, he says, that shaped his mentality and gave him the hunger to succeed.
“There were times when things weren’t going my way, but I never gave up,” he added. “Playing in the lower leagues taught me resilience and gave me a real appreciation for what it takes to succeed in football.”
That hunger is clear in his performances. A dynamic box-to-box presence, Parillon has added energy, tenacity, and composure to Southend’s midfield, drawing praise from teammates and coaches alike. Maher, who has put his faith in the youngster, believes Parillon’s attitude and potential could take him far.
“Leon’s been fantastic since coming in,” said the Southend boss. “He’s got the right mindset, he listens, learns, and gives everything in training and on matchdays. That’s what you want from a young player trying to make his mark.”
Southend will need that drive and determination this weekend as they face a tricky away fixture, with Parillon expected to play a key role once again. Despite the pressure, the midfielder remains focused on taking each game as it comes.
“We’ve got a strong group here, and we all believe in what we’re building,” said Parillon. “Every game is a chance to show what we can do. For me personally, I just want to keep improving, helping the team, and see where it takes me.”
Fans have also taken to the energetic midfielder, appreciating not just his work rate but also his willingness to engage with supporters off the pitch.
“There’s a real buzz at the club right now,” Parillon added. “The fans have been brilliant with me, and I want to give everything back to them on the pitch.”
