Hull City is still eager to acquire striker Oli McBurnie, but they are still very much in the running to recruit both Lewis O’Brien and Louie Barry from Premier League rivals.
According to Hull Live, negotiations with Nottingham Forest on a move for O’Brien have been going on for some weeks, but the necessary financial package is still a roadblock.
Although sources involved in the negotiations believe that claims of a £5 million deal are unrealistic, City is in talks with Forest on both a loan and a permanent transfer for the 26-year-old midfielder, who has a contract at the City Ground until next summer.
O’Brien is reportedly interested in joining the Tigers since it would allow him to be nearer to his home in West Yorkshire, although the team has other options in that region of the pitch. With owner Acun Ilicali and head coach Sergej Jakirovic actively involved in the negotiations, City is rumoured to have a player on their radar who is located in Europe and is also in talks to arrive in his place.
Louie Barry, a 22-year-old former Barcelona superstar, is also being discussed by City and Aston Villa in regards to a permanent return.
The playmaker, who joined City on loan in January before suffering a catastrophic knee injury that essentially ruined his season in just four appearances, is reportedly open to selling from Villa.
The two clubs’ relationship is still good, and talks are still going on about that arrangement, which might be finalised soon because Villa has to generate income before turning in their books by Monday’s deadline.
Barry is one of three choices the team is considering; the Tigers are also thinking about a permanent and loan option. The team is interested in permanently signing Barry, who was born in Sutton Coldfield, because they see a lot of potential in a player who has shown promise in League One with Stockport County but hasn’t shown much in the Championship.
Ahead of Monday’s complete resumption to preseason training under new manager Sergej Jakirovic, City has already signed three players. Nigerian international Semi Ajayi, Reda Laalaoui, and goalie Dillon Phillips have all arrived.
Although there is a desire to have a lot of that work finished before the season begins against Coventry City on August 9, the Tigers anticipate signing up to eight new players before the window shuts.
