Leyton Orient-Stockport County Would Have Been Excellent Final – Ex-Striker.

Former EFL striker Sam Parkin believes Stockport County and Leyton Orient would have made an excellent League One playoff final, despite Charlton Athletic advancing to the Wembley showpiece instead of the Hatters.
Charlton Athletic will play Leyton Orient in the final League One game of the 2024/25 season for a place in the Championship the following season.
The two semi-finals involving the finalists were very different, with one being a high-scoring game and the other being a one-goal affair.
Parkin thought the Charlton vs. Wycombe match was one of the worst in recent history.
On the contrary, the other tie was heated, and if it had been a Stockport County versus Leyton Orient final, the 44-year-old believes it would have been better.

Parkin described the League One playoff semi-final as “one of the worst in recent memory” during an interview with What The EFL (20:15).
“Leyton Orient and Stockport provided something completely different; I thought it was a really good tie; I believe those two would have made an excellent final.
| Result | Year |
|---|---|
| Bolton 0-2 Oxford United | 2024 |
| Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Barnsley | 2023 |
| Sunderland 2-0 Wycombe | 2022 |
| Blackpool 2-1 Lincoln City | 2021 |
“Really going threatening across the two games, I think contrasting styles here to a degree.”
Charlton established a strong defensive record in the run-up to the final, which Parkin believes will serve them well against Leyton Orient.

However, given Richie Wellens’ team’s attacking prowess, the former EFL star believes they will have more goals to their name.
“Charlton were probably slightly better defensively towards the end of the season, while Orient had slightly more goals in their arsenal.
“If you look at the front players right now, I think they have more ways to hurt the Addicks rather than the other way around.”
Charlton’s last Championship appearance came in 2020, when they were relegated alongside Wigan Athletic and Hull City.
