French club Lille have initiated discussions with Stoke City regarding the potential transfer of highly-rated midfielder Sol Sidibe, according to reports emerging from France. The 18-year-old, who captains England’s U18 side, faces a pivotal moment in his young career as interest grows from abroad.
A Rising Talent with Deep Stoke Roots
Sidibe has been part of Stoke’s setup since childhood, following in the footsteps of his father Mama Sidibe – a club legend who helped secure Premier League promotion in 2008 and now works in Stoke’s recruitment team. Despite making his senior debut two years ago, the teenager’s progress has been disrupted by managerial changes and a season-ending back injury suffered just as new boss Mark Robins took charge in January.
International Appeal and Recent Form
The dual-nationality midfielder (eligible for England, France, Mali and Senegal) recently returned to full fitness, featuring for England U18s during the summer after undergoing specialized training with Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly. Sidibe is scheduled to play in Stoke’s behind-closed-doors friendly against Shrewsbury today, with the club reportedly unwilling to consider a loan deal.
