Liverpool are assessing their stance on defender Joe Gomez as Crystal Palace, Leeds United, and West Ham show firm interest in signing the £30 million-rated England international, according to TBR Football.
Gomez, who joined Liverpool in 2015, has been a loyal servant to the club, contributing significantly to their Champions League and Premier League successes. While no longer a regular starter, his versatility and professionalism keep him in high regard at Anfield.
Graeme Bailey of TBR reports: “Liverpool are happy for Gomez to stay, but if the 28-year-old wants to leave, it is a possibility that the club will not stand in his way.”
Despite limited minutes, Gomez is understood to be content at Liverpool and has not submitted a transfer request. Any exit would be on his own terms.
Arne Slot Faces Defensive Rebuild Challenge
With Arne Slot entering his second season at the helm, defensive planning has become a priority. While Virgil van Dijk recently extended his contract, Ibrahima Konaté’s situation remains uncertain. The Frenchman is reportedly on Real Madrid’s radar, and talks over a new contract have stalled due to his wage demands.
At the same time, young centre-back Jarell Quansah is drawing interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Bayer Leverkusen. Valued at over £40 million, Liverpool are reportedly open to letting him go for the right offer.
This leaves Liverpool potentially facing an overhaul in central defence if multiple departures materialise.
Gomez’s Importance as Squad Depth
Should Gomez depart alongside Quansah and with Konaté’s future unresolved, Liverpool would be short of experienced defensive options. Despite not being a regular starter, Gomez remains a valuable squad player due to his ability to play at centre-back and full-back.
Slot is expected to push for new defensive recruits if any of the current backline members exit, especially given van Dijk’s age and the need for stability in multiple competitions.
Crystal Palace and Leeds United Offer Different Prospects
Both Palace and Leeds are exploring a move for Gomez. Palace could provide him with more consistent playing time in an established Premier League system, while Leeds—recently promoted—could offer a leadership role in a young, energetic squad.
Despite the interest, Liverpool appear content to keep Gomez unless he expresses a desire to leave. His leadership, adaptability, and experience remain key assets in a potentially shifting defensive setup.
