Plymouth Argyle boss Miron Muslic has opened up on his commitment to the club but he still has reservations about backing from the board.
Plymouth Argyle have put up a good fight against relegation in the second half of this season. Despite that, PAFC are still all but relegated going into the final day clash with Leeds United
almost impossible’ hierarchy issue
Muslic was quizzed about his future ahead of this weekend’s game and was very firm on his commitment to Plymouth Argyle. However, the popular boss insists he needs help with a more prevalent footballing structure around him if they are to progress.
As relayed by Plymouth Live, Muslic said:
“This is still a hard question for me, not because of the lack of commitment or conviction to Argyle.
“I’m still here without a sporting director, I’m still here without a recruitment department. That makes a job for a head coach very, very difficult. That makes success, regardless of the competition, almost impossible.
“So I would love to answer this questions and to have clarity for my point of view because I have to lead the staff, I have to lead this organisation but I need also pillars.
“I truly believe in every strong organisation, regardless of the competition – Premier League, Championship, League One, League Two, you need a triangle of a sporting director, recruitment and head coach. I’m alone for four months so these are the questions I need answers.”
The Plymouth Argyle boss later added:
“It’s never about my commitment or my conviction. I actually love this club. I’m just here for four months and I know it’s a big statement, but I do.”
Argyle’s questionable appraoch
Certain bosses like taking control of all aspects of the club. So, when Plymouth Argyle parted ways with director of football Neil Dewsnip, many thought they would appoint that type of boss to replace Wayne Rooney.
However, that evidently was not the case in appointing Muslic. Abandoning having a director of football altogether appears to have been a detrimental move, leaving them exposed to clubs who could offer such things to Muslic.
That lack of consistency across the recruitment process to replace Rooney could come back to cost them. It is not a great look for the club and needs to be rectified before it is too late.
Mid-table form under Muslic
Had Plymouth Argyle had Muslic in the dugout from the start of the season they would theoretically be comfortably safe from relegation. Under the Austrian, they have picked up 26 points from 20 games.
That means Muslic has a record of 1.30 points per game, which across 46 games equates to around 60 points. 60 points would leave PAFC in 12th place in between Swansea City and Sheffield Wednesday.
He has proven himself a more than capable boss at Championship level. Muslic at the helm in League One should leave Plymouth Argyle in good stead going into the new season, but it is entirely feasible that he moves on for a job at a higher level.
