Luton MP wants your views on post service after reports of Royal Mail delays.
MP Rachel Hopkins is conducting a survey to gather feedback on the postal service in Luton South and South Bedfordshire in response to Royal Mail delays.
She seeks feedback from residents on the quality and reliability of Royal Mail in their area.
This comes after one Wigmore woman waited 11 days for the delivery of a first-class letter that she had sent to herself to see how long it would take to arrive.
Rachel Hopkins MP launched a postal service survey on Monday (April 28) to gather feedback from residents on the quality and reliability of their postal service.
The survey asks people how satisfied they are with their local postal delivery service, how often they have experienced disruptions, and how frequently they receive deliveries.
The Royal Mail’s Universal Service Obligation requires it to deliver letters to every address in the UK six days a week at a uniform price, as well as parcels five days a week.
However, not everyone in the town has had this experience. We asked our readers how they felt about the service in their area.
Bex Starr explained how she dealt with missing important information after not receiving her post on time.
She stated, “I was threatened with eviction because I never received extremely important letters from the council.” Sometimes there are no posts for a few weeks.
“I get letters from my neighbours (which I always put through the correct door). I had Royal Mail deliver a parcel that was expected the day before at around 9 p.m.
Christine Woodall, a resident of LU4, expressed her dissatisfaction with the situation, stating that it happens every two weeks.
Pauline Trowsdale added, “I work for a bank, and it’s shockingly bad. We used to receive deliveries every day; now we’re lucky to get them once a week. So, if we’re waiting on items for customers and don’t get them, you know who’s in the firing line. Aside from that, the postman himself is a nice guy.
“It’s not the postmen or ladies, it’s [Royal Mail] in general. When we asked the postman, he told us there are not enough staff to cope.”
Despite the complaints, many of those who responded praised their local post offices and praised their “excellent service”.
Simon Marks said, “LU3 is great… The postmen are pleasant, timely, and consistent. “I am really impressed.”
Lippy Liz Hughes-Francis said, “Lovely postman, very friendly, but I only seem to get mail a few times a week.”
According to a Royal Mail spokesperson, the vast majority of local residents now receive deliveries on a daily basis, with a small minority receiving them every other day. There have been no significant disruptions in the last three weeks, thanks to a decrease in sickness absence and the recruitment of new colleagues.
“We are in touch with Ms Hopkins to arrange a meeting to address her concerns.”
In December, Ofcom fined the Royal Mail £10.5 million for failing to meet delivery targets.
Rachel Hopkins MP stated that “Luton South and South Bedfordshire deserve a reliable postal service that meets the needs of our community.”
We all know that our postal workers go above and beyond, but widespread concern about postal delivery delays suggests that the service is understaffed and inadequately resourced.
“I want to hear from local people about how they have been affected by delays, so I can call for a service that we all can be proud of.”
