Crews have been battling a fire in a laundry room at Luton Town Football Club, but the incident will not affect their crucial game against Coventry City on Saturday.

Images shared on social media appeared to show firefighters dealing with black smoke billowing from inside the Kenilworth Road stadium.

The Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service reported that the fire was extinguished in less than two hours after being called at 20:08 BST.

Crews remained on the scene, and Hatters Way was still closed completely.

“Smoke was found to be coming from a small appliance that had caught fire in the stadium’s laundry room, which was contained within that area and has been dealt with swiftly to prevent any substantial damage,” according to the team.

During the incident, firefighters said they used an aerial platform, a 9m (30ft) ladder, and two hose reels while wearing breathing apparatus.

The Hatters host Coventry City at 12:30 BST on Saturday, a crucial match for both sides in the Championship table.

The club stated that the match would go ahead as planned.

Luton moved to Kenilworth Road, also known as The Kenny, in 1905. It currently has approximately 12,000 seats.
