Traffic backed up on the M1 on Wednesday afternoon after multiple emergency vehicles responded to an accident on the major highway. According to National Highways, traffic had stopped due to a collision and an overturned vehicle.

The incident occurred on the southbound between J5 Watford and J4 Edgware in Hertfordshire. One witness at the scene wrote on X: “I saw 8 ambulances, 6 cop cars, and 5 fire engines pass on the hard shoulder, and now there’s a helicopter in the sky.” Avoid taking the M1 into London. “I hope everyone is okay. #M1 #M1motorway.”
