Maiden Earlegh and Whitegates by-election announced
In the Wokingham Borough, a councillor passed away, prompting the calling of a by-election.
On Thursday, June 5, voters in the Whitegates and Maiden Earlegh wards will cast their ballots.
Following the passing of Conservative Councillor Norman Jorgensen, a member of Earley Town Council, a by-
election has been scheduled.
Previously serving as the executive member for children’s services and environment, sport, and leisure, Mr.
Jorgensen is the spouse of Pauline Jorgensen, the leader of the Conservative group.
In this capacity, Mr. Jorgensen was in charge of the renovation of Bulmershe Leisure Centre, the installation of food
waste collections, and the opening of a new science block at Maiden Earlegh School.
In 1984, Norman and Pauline relocated to Earley, where he was employed as a science engineer.
The candidates will be approved on Friday, May 9, and the by-election is scheduled for June 5.
Nominations are due on Thursday, May 8.
In the event that the seat is challenged, a by-election might also be held to represent the Redhatch Ward on the
Earley Town Council. We’ll confirm this on Friday, May 9.
The dates and deadlines for this by-election, if it is contested, will be the same as those for the borough council
position.
Residents have until Monday, May 19, to register to vote.
There are now 27 Liberal Democrats, 19 Conservatives, 6 Labour, and 1 Independent on the Wokingham Borough
Council.
