Man dies and six injured in police chase crash
On Friday night, the driver of a police-chased vehicle perished in a collision with two other vehicles in south London.
Shortly before 21:00 BST, an incident occurred in Wickham Road, Croydon, near the intersection with Shirley Road,
injuring six people who were in the two other vehicles, including one badly, according to the Met Police.
It was thought that the deceased 63-year-old man had used fake license plates on his vehicle.
Both of his 61-year-old passengers were taken into custody on suspicion of riding in a stolen car. For possessing class
A drugs, one person was also taken into custody. Police said both are still in arrest.
20:28 BST on Friday, according to a statement from the force.
Officers attempted to halt the car near South Norwood High Street at 20:38 BST, but it was unable to stop, so they
pursued it.
According to police, the vehicle collided with two other vehicles six minutes later in Wickham Road, Croydon, at the
intersection of Shirley Road.
Officers performed CPR on a man, but he passed away right away. We have notified his next of kin.
The London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service transported six patients to the hospital and treated several
injuries. One of them had a possibly fatal wound.
When a vehicle is involved in a collision that results in death or serious injury after a police pursuit, the Independent
Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) must be referred. This is what happened when the Met’s Directorate of Professional
Standards was notified right away, according to a Met Police spokesperson.
“The IOPC will now carry out an independent investigation.”
