Man Fatally Shot After Confrontation with Police in Crown Heights, Hempstead
In the early hours of wednesday a man was fatally shot by police officers responding to reports of a violent individual at an apartment in Crown Heights, Hempstead. The incident occurred at approximately 4:50 a.m. at 330 Washington Street, where officers encountered 31-year-old Patrick Alexis, who was reportedly armed and threatening.
According to the Nassau County Police Department, upon arrival, officers were met with threats from Alexis, who claimed to possess both a knife and a gun, stating his intent to shoot the officers. When Alexis opened the door, he was holding a knife and advanced toward the officers in a menacing manner. An officer attempted to subdue him with a Taser, but it proved ineffective.
