Man Utd agree deal to sign Brentford winger Mbeumo: reports

According to sources, Manchester United has agreed to sign Brentford winger Mbeumo.

After scoring 20 goals in 38 Premier League games for Brentford the previous season, Mbeumo caught Amorim’s eye.

The 25-year-old was also being pursued by Tottenham, who are currently coached by Thomas Frank, a former Brentford manager, before United’s better offer completed the transaction after their two prior attempts were rejected. United will pay Brentford a further £6 million in possible add-ons. As Amorim’s team begins their preseason trip on Tuesday, Mbeumo is scheduled to get a medical examination in order to travel to the United States.

He will join teenage Paraguayan defender Diego Leon and Wolves striker Matheus Cunha at Old Trafford as United’s third acquisition since the end of the last campaign. After a terrible season, Amorim has been committed to improving United’s forward options. They finished in 15th position in the top flight, which was their lowest since 1973–74, and lost to Tottenham 1-0 in the Europa League final, which was toothless.

Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, Amorim’s primary strikers, had a difficult season. Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are anticipated to depart after their loan stints at Aston Villa and Chelsea, respectively, while Alejandro Garnacho has apparently been instructed by Amorim to find a new team.

Mbeumo will be the newest addition to Amorim’s team as he attempts to reinvigorate a struggling United. Even though United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League cost the team at least £70 million, they are still on a spending binge, having already spent £62.5 million on Cunha. The adaptable Mbeumo can play a number of positions in central attacking zones or on the flanks.

His quickness, inventiveness, and clinical finishing should really benefit United. After joining Brentford from French club Troyes in 2019, Mbeumo flourished there for six years, making 242 appearances across all competitions and contributing 70 goals and 51 assists. He played a key role in the Bees’ successful 2024–25 10th-place finish and eventual 2021 promotion to the Premier League.
