Manager pens heartfelt goodbye message as Birmingham City set to complete first signing of summer

Manager pens heartfelt goodbye message as Birmingham City set to complete first signing of summer.

Birmingham City is poised to welcome their first arrival of the 2025 summer transfer season, with a manager having already tendered his goodbyes. Birmingham City will return to the Championship for the 2025/26 season, with a busy summer expected. We learnt earlier this year that Birmingham will have an ambitious transfer window as they seek to compete in the second division and possibly gain promotion for the second season in a row. Owner Tom Wagner intimated that a record signing could happen this summer, and one transaction has already been completed.

Manager pens message to incoming Birmingham City signing Phil Neumann

Birmingham had agreed to a pre-contract deal with Phil Neumann, which was finalised during the January transfer window. The player’s contract expired at the end of June, and he was due to become a free agent until the Blues signed him for free. Neumann was on the books of German club Hannover 96, but he will be leaving for the Midlands next month. With his stint at Hannover coming to an end, interim manager Lars Barlemann has responded, saying that ‘he will be missed’. He stated, as reported by Bild, “He will be missed. Phil is a fantastic character who has grown tremendously and become a key player for us.”

The German outlet report the player will get married in June before then linking up with his new team.
Birmingham City transfer: latest Neumann is not the only player who could join St Andrew’s in the coming months. Birmingham want Kwame Poku, who is set to leave Peterborough United for free this summer. Mark Travers, meanwhile, is on Birmingham’s wishlist after a strong second half of the 2024/25 season on loan with Middlesbrough in the Championship. Boro are unlikely to retain Travers when their previous number one shot-stopper, Sol Brynn, returns from injury.
