Manchester United in fresh triple striker transfer claim as Ollie Watkins ‘worry’ detailed

On Sunday morning (UK time), Manchester United will play a preseason friendly against West Ham as part of their

ongoing preparations for the 2025–2026 season.

During the team’s 0-0 draw with Leeds United in Stockholm last time out, head coach Ruben Amorim gave new

recruits Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon their debuts. Since then, Bryan Mbeumo has also joined United, as the team

confirmed earlier this week that he had moved from Brentford for £65 million.

And now, their pre-season preparations will continue with a tour of the United States. Amorim’s men jetted off to

Chicago on Tuesday, where they’ll be based for the majority of their three-match tour.

Below is a look at some of the latest United transfer headlines as well as a view on each one;

Striker transfer claim

ESPN claims that agreements have been discussed for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, PSG’s Randal Kolo Muani,

and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins at United this summer.

Although Marcus Rashford’s move to Barcelona gave some headroom, the article claims that sales have been

designated as necessary for any significant acquisition.

The Manchester Evening News’ Isaac Seelochan states: “Watkins’ Premier League experience makes him the best

choice out of the three. But it’s possible that the other two players are less expensive.

“If so, then United would have a tough decision to make as there isn’t a huge difference between the abilities of

Vlahovic and Kolo Muani and what they could offer the club.”

Watkins fear outlined

Rio Ferdinand, a legend at United, feels that Watkins’ age would prevent him from having a respectable transfer

“sell-on value” in the future, which is the “only drawback” for United in signing him. He stated on his Rio Ferdinand

Presents YouTube channel that “I think he would be a very, very good addition to the Manchester United squad.” “In

54 games last season, he recorded 17 goals and 14 assists.

“He’s 29 – and that’s the only drawback for Manchester United. There’s not going to be any sell-on value, which I

understand is an issue, but you’ve got to look at the here and now with Manchester United.”
