‘I don’t want to be patient,’ says Mark Robins, who is thrilled about the Stoke City trade.
In an effort to get his new Stoke City additions up to speed for the Championship as soon as possible, Mark Robins is eager to start working with Tomas Rigo. After a deal was reached last Saturday, Robins had hardly had time to meet Rigo. The player rushed to Slovakia for last night’s World Cup qualifying match against Germany after watching the West Brom game from the stands. However, his former team, Banik Ostrava, held onto him as they attempted to advance to the Europa Conference League group stage, making him a target that Stoke had pursued throughout the transfer window and were patient to complete.
The 23-year-old Rigo will make an intriguing transition to England’s second division after spending two years at Banik and his whole senior club career in the Czech league. “We’ve been searching for him all summer,” Robins remarked. Evidently, they have been waiting for him to complete the Conference qualifying. In addition to being technically excellent, he is an intriguing player. He is obviously someone we admire, and like any new player who has never played in English or Championship football, they are initially caught off guard by the intensity and regularity of the games.
Let’s see how close he is when we see him in the stripes, but we’ll need to bring them up to speed first. This is yet another great signing. “We must get our guys healthy and on the pitch. We need everyone fit, which helps us alter games in a more constructive way. Not Rigo specifically, as he is now leaving with Slovakia, but Lamine Cisse, Gallagher, and Steven Nzonzi. As they get used to playing football in England, Stoke’s own players—Rigo and Cisse, who joined from Bastia in France, and Robert Bozenik, a Slovakian striker who joined from Boavista in Portugal—are not on loan. However, that does not imply that Robins does not believe they can have a significant impact right now.
