Even though it ended in misery and disappointment in the play-off final at Wembley last weekend, Vini Souza’s personal transformation from boo-boy to fan favorite was one of the most remarkable parts of Sheffield United’s promotion push this season. Despite some difficulties with injuries, Souza played a key role in United’s Premier League campaign.
From being jeered onto the field by a tiny group of Unitedites during his first season at Bramall Lane, where he failed to live up to the promise after arriving from Lommel for £10 million, he has come a long way. However, he has demonstrated more of his abilities this season as a muscular midfielder who is skilled at stopping play and making smart use of the ball once he has it.
