Only three years after Zimbabwe gained independence from the UK in April 1980,

the Sky Blues concluded their tour of the country on this day (June 17th) in 1983 with a 4-2 loss to a Harare team named Caps United FC (Caps = Central African Pharmaceutical Society). The Harare Dynamos, the second major team in the capital, were and still are fierce rivals of United, whom the Sky Blues defeated 5-1 two days ago. Since they were the only local group in the capital to defeat CCFC in 1983, it must have given them the right to boast. On June 12th, the Sky Blues colors were also lowered by the Bulawayo Saints, one of the two major teams in the nation’s second-largest city, along with the Highlanders.
