McDonnell returns to Wimbledon on two-year deal

McDonnell returns to Wimbledon on two-year deal.

Goalkeeper Joe McDonnell has returned to AFC Wimbledon on a two-year contract after five years away.

The 31-year-old joins Wimbledon on a free transfer from Eastleigh, where he made 230 appearances. Last season’s number one custodian, Owen Goodman, returned to Crystal Palace at the end of his season-long loan.

The Wombles beat Walsall in the League Two play-off final at Wembley in May to seal promotion to the third tier.

McDonnell made 34 appearances for Wimbledon in six seasons from 2014 to 2020.

“To be part of Wimbledon again is a great opportunity. I’m yet to visit Plough Lane, so I’m excited for that experience – it’s an incredible stage for the club.

“This is a club like no other because of the fans we have, I can’t wait to see some familiar faces again.” Wimbledon’s League One campaign begins on Friday, August 1, away against Luton Town.
