When asked if he would like to see Sweden international Jens Cajuste, a midfielder on loan from Napoli, at Portman Road next season, Town manager Kieran McKenna responded, “It would be obvious.” He and his staff both much like the player.
The 25-year-old Cajuste has been one of the team’s best players this season, and supporters have named him among the top candidates for Player of the Year, along with Liam Delap and Dara O’Shea.
According to reports, Town paid €1.5 million (£1.3 million) for Cajuste on loan, with a €12 million (£10.2 million) buyout required if they had remained in the Premier League.
McKenna responded, “I think those conversations are for down the line,” when asked if he would like the Gothenburg-born schemer and if that may be feasible after relegation.
Would Jens be welcome at the club? I don’t like to give too many answers because he’s someone else’s player, but I believe it would be clear.
He’s been one of the best players this season, and I think it speaks highly of him to achieve that with a team that has struggled greatly, with some injury problems he’s been dealing with, in a new league, a new nation, and everything else.
Naturally, we think highly of him as a player, but he is on loan from Napoli. Contrarian discussions, in my opinion, won’t happen until the end of the season.
