George Gitau will return to Middlesbrough after spending the second half of the season on loan with Raith Rovers.
That’s at least what Africa Foot reports, and Raith Rovers had the opportunity to make the 21-year-old’s stay permanent.
However, they have decided not to retain the Middlesbrough-owned player, thus he will return to the Riverside Stadium.
Gitau progressed through Boro’s junior system but has yet to break into the first team. He joined the Scottish Championship team to get experience and further his progress, but the move did not pan out.

According to Africa Foot, the defender will join Middlesbrough’s pre-season training camp under Michael Carrick. However, the Championship club has chosen to release him during the summer transfer window.
MI Sports Management represents the child, and a source close to the agency informed Africa Foot of Carrick and Boro’s plans for him.
‘He (Gitau) will not return to Raith Rovers next season because the club has relinquished the option to buy him. He will join the squad for pre-season, but Middlesbrough is actively looking for a new loan or a sale, as agreed with Carrick.
The loan to Raith didn’t generate the intended effects, but that is how it is. “He will not be returning there,” a source stated.
It remains to be seen whether this allegation will hold up in England. Gitau’s preferred position is on the right side of the defence, but he can play anywhere along the back line.
