The Yorkshire Post reported that Middlesborough are close to signing outstanding Manchester City youngster Sverre Nypan on loan, which has piqued Boro fans’ interest.
The 18-year-old joined Premier League giants City in June for a sum of £12.5 million and has been hailed as a promising prospect since joining from Norwegian club Rosenborg, where Nypan comes from.
After attempting to impress in his nation, initially emerging on the scene at the age of 16, Nypan earned his move to England and might receive valuable experience playing in the Championship next season, having been linked with a move to the Riverside.
Nypan, who is only a youngster, could provide the Boro side with dynamism in the heart of the midfield, as well as goal contributions.
The young Norwegian had a successful 2024 season with Rosenborg, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists in 28 league appearances. Numbers that Nypan may potentially put up in the Championship.
Sverre Nypan is a player that is set to get Middlesborough fans excited
When asked about the probable signing of Manchester City’s Nypan, Football League World’s Middlesborough fan analyst, Liam Day, had high hopes for the youngster, but not for the reasons you might expect.
“It’s one of the most exciting signings I think I’ve seen at Boro simply because of Football Manager!” Liam informed FLW.
“I’ve used him a lot, and he appears to be class, and when you see his highlights in real life, he does look class.
“Technically he looks unbelievable, and I am very, very excited by this signing.”
However, given his lack of top-level playing experience, Nypan may require some time to adjust to life in England, particularly the competitive atmosphere of the Championship. His raw and explosive style of play is one thing that draws Boro supporters out of their seats, but he is still a work in progress.
“My first concern for him is how he will adapt to Championship football. Because he appears to need to progress physically, but that is to be expected given his youth,” Liam noted.
Signing Sverre Nypan could impact Hayden Hackney’s future at Middlesbrough

Nyman’s impending arrival could have an impact on what happened to Hayden Hackney in the last two weeks of the transfer window.
Hackney has been a regular in the Boro squad since making his senior debut in the 2021/22 season.
Throughout his tenure at the Riverside, the 23-year-old has captured the hearts of Boro fans, who regard Hackney to be one of their own.
Despite continuing to thrive, as evidenced by his goal in Saturday’s 0-3 away win over Millwall, the prospective arrival of Nypan might mean trouble for Hackney if the club decides to sell him.
FLW’s Middlesbrough fan analyst, Day, added, “The implications of Hackney, in all honesty, if it means Hackney moves on, or we’ve already got a replacement who’s good enough to start and play in this team, I wouldn’t be against it.”
“We desperately need a full squad improvement and Hackney money will allow us to bring in high-quality players.”
“I feel like it would make sense to do that now, given that he only has two years left, because next year you’ll get a lower fee, probably at least half of what you could get this year.”
“It may be worth selling now just for the benefit of the whole squad if I’m honest.”
