Hull City’s Alfie Jones might be on his way to Middlesbrough, according to sources. The Teesside club has expressed interest in the £2 million-rated defender.
Hull City’s increasingly challenging summer could get much tougher, with reports suggesting that defender Alfie Jones could leave the club for Middlesbrough.
Hull just averted relegation from the Championship on the final weekend of the 2024-25 season, and the club has been particularly busy in the transfer market this summer, following the appointment of Sergej Jakirovic at the end of June.
However, the club has been placed under a transfer embargo, and indications indicate that the team’s financial situation may be worse than previously thought.

Alfie Jones could be on the way to Middlesbrough from Hull
HullLive reports that defender Alfie Jones could leave the club this summer.
According to reports, the new Middlesbrough head coach, Rob Edwards, admires Jones and has told the Tigers of Boro’s interest in their vice captain.
It has been said that talks over a £2 million move to Teesside have taken place, and that while the 27-year-old central defender has not indicated that he is looking to leave, Hull are unlikely to stand in his way if an offer in that range arrives on their desk.
Jones is entering the final year of his contract at the MKM Stadium.

Jones has been an essential figure in the Hull defence for the past six years
Alfie Jones began his career at Southampton, but he was unable to break through and went on loan to St Mirren and Gillingham before joining Hull in the summer of 2020.
Over the last five years, he has made 180 League appearances for Hull City. He appeared 31 times in their 2021 League One title-winning club and was named Player of the Year in 2023.

Jones’ departure from the middle of Hull’s defence would be a significant loss for the club, and with HullLive reporting that he does not necessarily want to leave, Tigers fans could be forgiven for wondering why offers for him are being considered.
He signed a three-year contract extension with the Tigers in 2023, so he just has one year left on his deal, so it makes a lot of sense to cash in on him now and receive a couple of million pounds for him.
However, he has proven himself to be a dependable, strong leader for Hull over the last five seasons, and with the club desperately trying to avoid being drawn into perennial relegation battles in the future, keeping as many proven Championship performers as possible may be worth more to them than a £2 million transfer fee.
