Alfie Jones set for Middlesbrough switch

Hull reportedly agreed a fee with Middlesbrough for Jones this summer, despite concerns over his contract expiring.
The defender’s current contract expires in 2026, with an option for another year, raising concerns that he could leave the MKM Stadium for free at the end of the season.
Instead, it is understood that the club will get £3 million prior to his transfer to Middlesbrough to join Rob Edwards’ team.
Jones did not play for Sergej Jakirovic’s side in their pre-season match against Kasimpasa last week, and the defender has also been absent from training, despite reports that he is suffering from a minor ailment.
He is reportedly ready to depart their training camp in Turkey to join Hull City’s Championship opponents.
The 27-year-old joins Marvin Mehlem, Xavier Simons, and Joao Pedro in leaving the Tigers this summer.
Alfie Jones’ Importance to Hull
Jones arrived at the MKM Stadium after the club was relegated to League One in 2020, and he helped them win promotion to the Championship on the first try.
He established himself as a regular in the second tier, appearing in 149 games over the course of four seasons.
The defender’s departure will leave a gap in Jakirovic’s squad that must be filled.
Hull’s first league game of the season will be against Coventry City on August 9.
