Middlesbrough is one of three Championship clubs looking to sign Oxford United midfielder Tyler Goodrham this summer.
On May 12, Football League World learnt exclusively that Middlesbrough, Southampton, and Coventry City are all interested in signing the 21-year-old this summer.
Any probable deal may not be cheap, as Oxford United declared on their website in July 2024 that Goodrham had signed a new ‘long-term contract’.
The dynamic midfielder, who has been with the U’s since the age of 14, has been one of the star performers in the club’s first season back in the Championship since 1998/99, and is undoubtedly someone United manager Gary Rowett will want to keep.
“Straight swap”: Middlesbrough told to seal Oxford United Tyler Goodrham deal – Sammy Silvera claims

We questioned Middlesbrough fan pundit Jasper Hudson: “Middlesbrough is one of the clubs interested in Oxford United’s talented midfielder Tyler Goodrham.”
Thoughts? Would you be pleased with this addition? Hudson stated, “In terms of our summer transfer business, I believe there has been some discussion among fans and media that perhaps in January, we veered from what had previously been so effective for us.
“So, on the surface, he (Goodrham) appears to be an acquisition that will bring us back to past years’ windows, when we were fortunate in locating good, promising young players.

“He is versatile and can play in a variety of positions, which will help. None of his numbers are especially impressive, and the spots he’d be entering are quite competitive, with previous high-standard players and some true quality players.
“So there’s a lot of competition for him, and it’s a big job to fill. If he does come in, I see him as a utility player who can play around. “However, I do not regard it as a particularly high-risk signing.
He might eventually come in, and a player like Sammy Silvera, who we’ve had on loan this season, could leave the club, resulting in a straight exchange.”
Tyler Goodrham could have a great chance of taking Middlesbrough’s starting spot.

While Middlesbrough has a number of possibilities in Goodrham’s most usually deployed position, left midfield, none of them have truly established themselves in that area for a variety of reasons.
Delano Burgzorg has been inconsistent in his debut season on Teesside, finishing with just five goals and two assists in 42 Championship matches.
The Dutchman has become a popular character among Boro fans due to his work ethic, but his production hasn’t been sufficient to suggest he could be trusted as the key man on the left wing for a club with apparent promotion hopes.
Riley McGree has often demonstrated his potential at second-tier level while playing for Middlesbrough, but his tenure in the North East has been hampered by injuries and an inability to stay fit.
The Australian international appeared in only 17 Championship games this season, compared to 22 in 2023/24.
Finn Azaz can play on the left, but his natural position is in the middle, where he has put in his best performances in a Boro shirt.
As a result, if Goodrham joins Boro this summer, he has a good chance of breaking into the starting XI from that position.
Sammy Silvera is almost certainly leaving Middlesbrough this summer.

Sammy Silvera is one Middlesbrough player who will almost certainly be released this summer.
The 24-year-old joined Teesside from Australian club Central Coast Mariners in the summer of 2023, but has yet to establish himself as a key member of Michael Carrick’s squad.
Four goals and two assists in 37 Championship games marked an unimpressive debut in 2023/24, and successive loan moves to Portsmouth and Blackpool this season have not been particularly successful.
During his first half of the 2024/25 season with Portsmouth, the Australian international failed to score or assist in 11 second-tier appearances, while his second half of the campaign with the Tangerines in League One saw him score one goal and assist in 15 league appearances.
As a result, he has yet to distinguish himself in English football and missed his chance to impress Boro while on loan. As a result, he is set to leave Riverside Stadium this summer.
