Middlesbrough’s deadline day strategy includes new striker signing and firm Hayden Hackney stance.
Middlesbrough have made an incredible start to the season, but they could be set for a much quieter transfer deadline day than you’d expect.
Before the season began, everyone had written Middlesbrough off as being set for a tough season. Admittedly, even we had doubts – just take a look at our Championship preview and see how harsh we were on Rob Edwards’ side.
However, Boro have now won all four of their opening league games and sit at the top of the Championship table going into the international break.
We’ve seen a few more Middlesbrough sinnings in the last week and Edwards’ squad is now looking a lot stronger, but what else is to come on deadline day?

How many players will Middlesbrough sign on transfer deadline day?
A report from The Northern Echo sheds light on what Middlesbrough have planned for deadline day, and it sounds like we can expect one more arrival at the Riverside before the window shuts.
Boro have been linked with David Strelec for some time now, and Rob Edwards even admitted there is some truth to the rumours around the Slovakian star.
The 24-year-old will be the only new player to arrive today unless anything drastic changes throughout the next few hours.
Boro had wanted Strelec as far back as January, but a deal couldn’t be agreed.

Middlesbrough will not sell Hayden Hackney
Meanwhile, Middlesbrough are unlikely to let many more players leave, either. Indeed, they could be one of the quietest teams on deadline day in the Championship.
They’ve already let marcus forss join Bolton wanderers on loan for the season, while Dan Barlaser is also set to leave today.
However, it’s said Boro will stand firm in their stance on Hayden Hackney. We revealed last week that the sale of Finn Azaz would leave Middlesbrough unwilling to negotiate on Hackney, and it seems they will survive the day without losing their star man now.
Premier League clubs are keen on Hackney, but Boro are insistent that he is not for sale now.
