ALEX Neil praised Macaulay Langstaff after he scored a hat-trick in Millwall’s 6-2 win over Sutton United in a pre-season friendly last night, and suggested the striker had been unfortunate not to score in previous pre-season fixtures.
Langstaff opened the scoring for the Lions with a swept finish in the thirteenth minute, before doubling Millwall’s lead with a swivelling volley following a corner.
He completed his hat-trick with another well-placed effort into the bottom corner after Aidomo Emakhu forced a turnover high up the pitch.
The 28-year-old had previously not scored in Millwall’s pre-season friendlies and had a goal ruled out against Elche.
Neil was pleased with his performance against the U’s.
“I think he’s deserved more goals across pre-season,” Neil told NewsAtDen after the game. “I think he’s been a bit unfortunate.
Maybe a lack of composure in just a certain couple of moments, or at times maybe not selecting the right finish. But I thought tonight, he got the goals that he deserved, and that was really pleasing for him.”
